Cowboys Latest Amari Cooper Update Puts Dak Prescott in Position to Run Away With the NFL MVP Award

The Dallas Cowboys are running wild in the NFC as Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott play terrific football. The young stars on the defense — Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs — have turned this around and helped put Dallas in Super Bowl contention.

After Prescott’s season-ending injury one year ago, he has returned in terrific form and is firing on all cylinders.

But, the Cowboys received some massive news regarding Amari Cooper, and his absence surprisingly puts Prescott into a position to run away with the NFL MVP award.

Dak Prescott is in the running for the NFL MVP award after a 7-2 start for the Cowboys

With the NFL season halfway over, Prescott is in the running for the NFL MVP award. For obvious reasons, he is also seemingly the far-and-away leader for the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Prescott is dealing in 2021. Through eight starts, Prescott has thrown for 2341 yards with 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

He looks fantastic, and it is hard to believe he suffered a devastating injury just over a calendar year ago.

He is moving around well and even running in touchdowns now. The Cowboys just embarrassed the Atlanta Falcons and dropped 43 points last weekend.

Not only is Prescott a favorite to win the MVP award, but the Cowboys are also serious contenders to win the NFC and get to the Super Bowl. Sure, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are there, as is Matthew Stafford and Kyler Murray, but the Cowboys look explosive with Prescott healthy again.

Bad news struck Dallas just before the massive matchup against the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes with Amari Cooper being ruled out

Unfortunately, star wide receiver Amari Cooper is out for the next two games after landing on the COVID-19 list. On Friday came the bad news, and then came the word of Cooper being out for Sunday and Thanksgiving.

It is unfortunate, especially with the Cowboys facing the Las Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving day in Cooper’s first game against his former team.

The loss of Cooper is a tough blow for the Cowboys, and Prescott will need to step up more to win these football games.

Sure, Dallas has CeeDee Lamb and Elliott still. However, the two-person run of Cooper and Lamb has been electric. Lamb leads the team with 726 yards and 47 catches, but Cooper is right behind with 44 grabs and 583 yards. The two have combined for 11 scores on the season.

However, now defenses can zero in more on Lamb — and Elliott, for that matter — with the absence of Cooper. Kellen Moore’s offense will change drastically with the absence of Cooper, and it doesn’t help that the Cowboys have to play two games in five days.

Moreover, the Chiefs and Raiders are both good football teams and in the playoff hunt, which doesn’t help the case for the Cowboys.

Cowboys-Chiefs showdown just got crushing news on both sides

Not only is Cooper out for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, but Kansas City still doesn’t have an update on Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

As of Friday, head coach Andy Reid refused to clarify the status of Edwards-Helaire.

Nonetheless, the Chiefs-Cowboys showdown might be without a few key pieces. Still, at least Patrick Mahomes and Prescott are suiting up.

All eyes will be on the Cowboys, who can cement their status as one of the best teams in the NFL with victories over the Chiefs and Raiders in less than a week.

It is time for Prescott to prove to the world that he is the NFL MVP. After all, where would the Cowboys be without him?
