New York City Council member Robert Holden, a moderate Democrat who is often in conflict with Mayor Bill de Blasio, also accused the Queens of the rampage in a statement.
“Last night, 40 to 50 anarchists in black gathered at Elmhurst’s Crawley Park and entered the Middle Village to destroy and confuse peace,” Holden said.
“These riots destroyed property, destroyed the American flag, turned over trash cans, jumped into cars and sprayed them, blocking traffic,” he added.
Meanwhile, in Portland, police declared a riot, arrested one, and criminally quoted another as a mob broke windows and scribbled graffiti in anger at the Rittenhouse verdict on Friday.
According to the Portland Police Department, Erie A. Sterling, 27, of Portland was arrested on a warrant during a riot. The price was not immediately revealed.
Alan J. Bordeaux, 44, was criminally charged with being recklessly endangered after police said he had fired a handheld laser on a police helicopter.
