Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after Aston Villa posted a tweet ahead of their FA Cup clash against Manchester United.

What’s the story?

Well, this was either a deliberate attempt to wind Liverpool up, or it was just a coincidence – nevertheless, it has sparked plenty of reaction.

The Villans posted a photo of their starting XI from last season’s FA Cup third round clash against Liverpool, in which they were unable to use any first-team players.

Due to a COVID-19 outbreak, Aston Villa were forced to name seven Under-23 players and four Under-18 prospects against the Premier League champions, losing 4-1.

The tweet comes amid a time where Liverpool have managed to get their Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal postponed, due to a COVID-19 outbreak of their own.

Evidently, it seems as if the Villans are sending the Reds a reminder that they didn’t get to postpone their FA Cup game last term.

If this truly was a dig at Liverpool, then it is unfair from Aston Villa.

Many Premier League clubs have postponed their fixtures over the festive period, so we’re not quite sure why there’s such an uproar about Liverpool needing to do the same.

Additionally, this is a semi-final, not the third round of the FA Cup.

Should Liverpool be made to play their Academy prospects, the English Football League would effectively be giving Arsenal a bye into the final.

Yes, Aston Villa could argue that their game last season should’ve been postponed, although that has nothing to do with Liverpool.
