Liverpool reportedly eye ‘phenomenal’ star Firmino said he is a ‘huge fan’ of in 2020

Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs tracking Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho, according to reports from his home country. Loved by fans and teammates, Firmino once claimed he had “magical powers”.

Coutinho, 29, has struggled to replicate the form that earned him an enormous £142million move to Barcelona. Clocking up 106 appearances, he has proved to be little more than a fringe player at the Nou Camp.

It saw him go on loan to Bayern, and now, the 63-time Brazil ace has entered the final 18 months of his contract. A return to Liverpool could be on the cards, according to Goal Brasil, with Barcelona keen to sell.

However, Liverpool are not the only club interested. Goal also say that two Liverpool icons want him – in the form of Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard, at Everton and Aston Villa. Firmino’s verdict from 2020 will excite fans.

“He’s phenomenal. You simply can’t say that he’s not a magician. He has magical powers. He produces plays that don’t exist, you couldn’t make up. He’s an unbelievable player,” Firmino said, back in October 2020.

“It was a pleasure to play with him at Liverpool, and it’s a pleasure to play with him for the Seleção. I’m a huge fan of his. He’s one of the very best players in the world,” Firmino added, in an interview with FIFA.

Firmino on Coutinho: Surely, Liverpool should bring him home?

While many will not have forgiven Coutinho for leaving in the way he did, in January – it must be remembered that his sale has turned Liverpool into a powerhouse. They bought Alisson, and Virgil van Dijk, with that money.

Coutinho just needs a fanbase that loves him, and regular game time. He would surely get both at Liverpool if he is willing to put the work in under Jurgen Klopp. He would jump at the chance to return to Merseyside.

However, while he would easily get game time at Liverpool given the Reds remain in four competitions – would he start as much as he would or Everton or Villa? A decision, that Coutinho will have to weigh up.
