According to The Mail, Dele Alli will play no part in Tottenham Hotspur’s Carabao Cup clash at Burnley tonight.

But it has also been reported that Harry Winks will also be left in North London by Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Spurs midfielder made headlines last weekend by admitting that he was growing frustrated [Sky] with his lack of opportunities under Nuno.

And for Winks, this trip to Turf Moor could and probably would’ve been one game that he started.

But it appears that the England international – who isn’t injured – talking out of turn and venting his frustration via the media hasn’t gone down well with the Tottenham boss.

Winks was linked with a move away from the Lilywhites this past summer but failed to secure a move, amid reports Everton wanted him.

This axing from even a League Cup squad is horrible news for him and here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to the development on Twitter:

Insult to injury

This snub, if Nuno does follow through with it, will only add insult to injury for the 25-year-old.

We’re talking about 60 minutes in the Premier League this season for Winks, so you can understand his grievance.

Then again, airing dirty laundry in public is never a very smart thing to do and really, Winks has nobody to blame for this axing but himself it it does indeed materialise.

Had he kept quiet another few days, he could’ve had a stellar performance away to the Clarets and given his Tottenham career a second wind.

Instead, he has never looked more finished at the club than he does now.
