Leeds United are set to sign Mateo Joseph from Espanyol in the January transfer window, according to La Grada.
Leeds interest in Mateo Joseph
La Grada have reported that Mateo Joseph is now waiting for Leeds to finalise a deal with Espanyol.
Leeds have not been willing to pay what Espanyol want for the striker.
However, the Premier League outfit have finally budged from their position, and the club’s director of football, Victor Orta, has decided to pay the transfer fee needed.
The 18-year-old Spanish striker is now waiting in his home in Santander for the two clubs to sort out the final details.
Mateo Joseph is out of contract at Espanyol at the end of the season.
The teenager did not agree to the offer of a new deal from the La Liga club.
One for the future
Leeds do need a striker.
Head coach Marcelo Bielsa cannot rely on Patrick Bamford all the time.
And Rodrigo is better off playing as a number 10 in the team.
However, Mateo Joseph is only 18 and is clearly one for the future.
It is very likely that when the teenager moves to Leeds in January 2022, he will be drafted into the youth team first.
